Joan is a lead in the cleanroom at Radiall Connecticut

Q.What did you do when you first started at Radiall?

A.I started at Radiall almost four years ago in FO assembly, building different parts of fiber optic cables.

Q.Can you tell us more about your current role?

A.In my current role, I'm in charge of keeping the production flow running, making sure the operators have parts to work on and that all procedures are being followed. This includes communicating with the other team lead in the cleanroom to make sure we have an efficient production line.

Q.What do you enjoy most about your work?

A.That every day is challenging and different, and I learn something new.

Q.What is a typical day like for you at Radiall?

A.A typical day for me is coming in and asking the previous shift team lead for updates on what has been done and what still needs to be done during our morning meetings. This also gives him or her a chance to describe what issues were found so we can collaborate to find a solution for it.

Q.What's the best advice you have for people wanting to pursue a career in this field?

A.To be patient...that it might look difficult but is actually not. To come into it with an open mind, ready to learn and to not give up.

Q.What’s been the proudest moment in your career thus far?

A.I would say to achieve a new goal of becoming Lead and to have the opportunity to demonstrate what I’m capable of even when I doubt myself sometimes.
