Radiall’s ML2P Handles More Power
Radiall’s new ML2P coaxial interconnect has the highest power handling available today.
It was originally designed for specialized cellular radios in urban areas that use higher power to pass more data faster. Radiall translated this technology over to the defense market, where these cellular radio connectors are used to build radar antenna systems.
Think of a cell radio as hundreds of radios with single antennas that transmit and receive as part of a network spread over an area; an array radar is the same basic concept except it's hundreds of antennas all in the same place—thus, "array."
So the same technology used to boost the power of cell radios can be used to boost the power of a radar. In radar, the ability to transmit high power is extremely important, it's directly proportional to range, or how far the radar can see. In the case of the ML2P, the power handling can help increase the range of an L/S/C band radar up to 100 percent.
An alternative application for the ML2P is directed energy, where microwave energy from a radar is transmitted at such high power that it can actually shoot down small drones!
